What do you mean by Hidden Testicle?

Hidden Testicle, also known as Undescended testicle, refers to the medical condition in which there is testicle only on one side and in rare cases testicles are missing on both sides. It usually happens when the testicle doesn’t move into the scrotum (bag of skin hanging below the penis).

What are the causes of Hidden Testicle?

Various factors responsible for Hidden Testicle are:

  • Premature birth (before 37th week of pregnancy)
  • Low birthweight
  • Conditions that affect fetel growth
  • Family history of genital issues
  • Pregnant females who smoke or consume alcohol are at greater risk of having babies with Hidden Testicle
  • Exposure of either parent to certain pesticides
What are the symptoms of Hidden Testicle?

The main symptom of Hidden Testicle is its absence when you touch the scrotum. After birth, when baby is examined, Hidden Testicle can be discovered. In case, the testicle doesn’t move on its own into the scrotum after few months, then treatment may be needed.

How can Hidden Testicle be treated?

The treatment for Hidden Testicle is usually done in babies between 12 and 18 months. It may include:

  • Hormonal therapy
  • Surgery (Orchidopexy)
