What are Urinary Tract Infections (UTI)?

Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) occur when any part of your urinary system (kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra) gets infected. Most UTIs occur in lower urinary tract that involves the bladder and urethra. If UTIs affect your kidneys, then serious complications may occur. Women are at great risk of UTIs than men.

What causes Urinary Tract Infections (UTI)?

Urinary tract infections usually occur when bacteria enter the urinary tract through urethra and then it multiplies in the bladder. It grows into full-blown infection creating trouble for the person.

Lower UTI are more common in women like, namely:

• Infection of the bladder (cystitis)
• Infection of the urethra (urethritis)

What are the symptoms of Urinary Tract Infections (UTI)?

Various signs and symptoms of UTIs are:

• Strong and persistent urge to urinate
• Pain or burning sensation while urinating
• Reduced amount of urine
• Cloudy urine Red, bright pink or cola coloured urine indicating blood in urine
• Urine with strong smell
• Pelvic pain / lower abdominal pain
• Fever

How can Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) be treated?

Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) are usually treated by antibiotics /& accessory measures as increasing fluid intake & alkalysing agents

Upper UTI involving Kidney and ureter are more serious conditions.
