What is Tennis Elbow?

Tennis Elbow refers to the painful condition in which tendons on outer side of the elbow get inflamed. This usually happens due to repetitive motion of the wrist and arms. Tennis Elbow is not only limited to tennis players as the name suggests, but it can occur in anyone especially whose job requires strenuous overuse of muscle & tendons like painters, plumbers, carpenters etc.

What causes Tennis Elbow?

Tennis Elbowis a stress injury caused to the muscles due to their repeated overuse. Any activity that causes repeated contraction of the forearm muscles leads to their tiny tears and inflammation, thereby, resulting in Tennis Elbow.

What are the symptoms of Tennis Elbow?

Tennis Elbow causes a lot of pain that may radiate from outside of your elbow to your forearm and wrist. The other symptoms may include:

  • Morning stiffness of the elbow along with pain
  • Soreness in the forearm
  • Pain becomes so severe that one even finds it hard to grip or lift objects
How can Tennis Elbow be treated?

Usually Tennis Elbow gets better on its own. People can take over-the-counter pain medicines to get relief from pain. However, if still you don’t see any progress in your condition, then your doctor will recommend:

  • Physical therapy
  • Injection
  • Ultrasonic tenotomy (TENEX procedure)
  • Surgery
