What is Trigger Finger?

Trigger Finger, also known as stenosing tenosynovitis, is a painful condition in which any one of your fingers get locked when bent. It usually happens when tendon in your finger become inflamed. They narrow the space within the sheath that surrounds the tendon in the affected area. This condition is more common in females or people with diabetes.

What causes Trigger Finger?

The various reasons for Trigger Finger are:

  • Repeated movement or forceful use of finger
  • Certain medical conditions like gout, diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis
What are the symptoms of Trigger Finger?

The symptoms of Trigger Finger include:

  • Soreness at the base of affected finger
  • Painful clicking or snapping while bending or straightening the finger
  • Finger gets locked in bent position and it is difficult to straighten it
How can Trigger Finger be treated?

Trigger Finger can be treated using number of treatment options depending on the severity of your condition, namely:

  • A splint put on the hand to prevent the joint from moving
  • Anti-inflammatory drugs
  • Steroid injections
