What is Genital Ulcer?

Genital Ulcer is a condition in which the skin or mucus membrane in the genital area is lost and there is exposure of tissue underneath it. It can occur in both males and females. In females, Genital Ulcer occur on the skin surrounding the vulva, labia, vagina, perineum, perianal and anal region.

What causes Genital Ulcer?

Genital Ulcer is caused due to both infectious factors as well as non-infections factors.

• Infectious factors include sexually transmitted infections like herpes simplex virus, syphilis, chancroid, lymphogranuloma venereum, secondary bacterial infection and fungal infection.
• Non-infectious factors include trauma, psoriasis, inflammatory diseases, bad reactions to skin care products and fixed drug eruptions.

What are the symptoms of Genital Ulcer?

The symptoms of Genital Ulcer may include:

• Open ulcers or cuts
• Pain or itching
• Abnormal discharge
• Small red bumps or small white blisters
• Vesicular lesions
• Pain during intercourse
• Pain while urinating

Genital Ulcer is usually treated with the help of antibiotics and taking certain preventive measure.</p
