Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix where it becomes swollen and filled with pus. It is a small finger-shaped pouch about 5-10 cm located on the right side of abdomen, connected to large intestine. The purpose of appendix is not yet known, however, studies suggest that it may host friendly bacteria that helps in digestion& fights infection.
Appendicitis is caused when the lining of appendix blocks and results in infection. The bacteria multiply at the site causing the appendix to become swollen, inflamed and filled with pus. If Appendicitis is not treated immediately, it can rupture.

The treatment of Appendicitis usually involves surgical removal of the inflamed appendix. Your doctor may give you antibiotics before the surgery in order to prevent infection.
