What are Endocrine disorders?

Endocrine disorders occur when the function of one or more endocrine glands is disturbed and due to this, the delicate hormonal balance in the body gets affected.

The endocrine system comprises of a network of glands that make and release hormones responsible for performing many important functions in your body like it controls the body’s ability to change calories into energy, influences how heart beats or bones & tissues grow. It also has an impact on your ability to get pregnant. Many hormone-related disorders like thyroid, diabetes, growth disorders and sexual dysfunction are also dependant on endocrine glands.

What causes Endocrine disorders?

The two most common causes of Endocrine disorders are:

  • When endocrine gland produces too much or too little of an endocrine hormone – This happens due to some disease, issues with endocrine feedback system, genetic disorder, infection or injury to endocrine gland.
  • Formation of lesions due in the endocrine system

  • Headache or body ache

How can Endocrine disorders be treated?

Some Endocrine disorders that don’t cause any symtpoms may not rquire any kind of treatment at all. However, those with moderate to severe symptoms need treatment. Your doctor will diagnose and treat the underlying cause for your problem. He may give you synthetic hormone administration for correcting the hormonal imbalance. In cases, where non-cancerous tumor causes symptoms, surgery or radiation therapy may be used.
